FTC disclosure rules compliance
New disclosure compliance rules were released by the Federal Trade Commission in 2015.
The purpose of these rules is to inform readers and viewers of web media when a blogger or publisher is sponsored, endorsed, or partnered with another company. The readers must be aware of whether a content publisher is making money by sharing a link or product.
The FTC guidelines state that the following should be assumed about links and posts on this site:
LeatherAdviser receives a small commission for sales of certain items through affiliate links.
An affiliate link is exactly what it sounds like.
It is important to note that whenever a reader clicks on an affiliate link located on LeatherAdviser to purchase an item, the reader purchases the item directly from the seller (and not from Leather).
LeatherAdviser receives a small commission or another compensation from Amazon or other companies for driving traffic to their websites.
In regards to affiliate links, it does not matter whether or not the reader purchases through them. When a visitor clicks on a non-affiliate link or an affiliate link, the visitor’s price or anything else does not vary.
There are two types of affiliate programs used by LeatherAdviser:
1. Amazon affiliate links.
LeatherAdviser participates in the Amazon Associates Program, a network of affiliate advertising companies that provides website owners with the opportunity to earn money by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated websites, as well as to other websites affiliated with Amazon Associates Program.
2. Affiliate links to products.
By clicking on an affiliate link and purchasing a product, I receive a percentage or other type of compensation.
Affiliate links do not affect the prices of products. By clicking through an affiliate link, you will not incur any costs. You will not be required to click on any links.
What about sponsored content?
Sponsored posts are not written by me. I don’t create sponsored content. On my website, there are no sponsored posts. All the information on my site is unbiased and honest. If a company wishes to sponsor LeatherAdviser, I will make that clear at the beginning of the post.
For this reason, I only recommend products that I personally use and would recommend to family and friends.
